In the spring of 2016, I decided to get an IUD. Because the doctor had difficulty placing it, he sent me for an ultrasound. While the Skyla was happily in place, the tech found a nearly six centimeter blood-filled cyst in one of my ovaries. After a month, the cyst didn’t go away, and my doctor decided to operate because he thought it was likely an endometrioma. When I woke up after surgery, he told me, “You have the worst case of endometriosis I’ve ever seen.” And so began my journey with stage four endo. Since then, I’ve been on birth control pills (after refusing Lupron shots) and have drastically changed my diet.
That’s the story in a nutshell. You can read a full account of my diagnosis here.
